The officer is currently serving as the Officer-in-Charge of the Kundasale Police Training College.
The main suspect detailed how he sought refuge at the home of a Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha driver following the incident.
This driver allegedly facilitated contact with the police officer, who arrived at the home to advise the suspect.
During this meeting, the officer reportedly reassured the suspect by highlighting his brother's senior police position and claiming prior intervention in legal matters involving the driver.
Investigations also uncovered that the main suspect obtained Rs.500,000 from the same driver under the guise of sending the driver's wife abroad.
Additionally, the driver's son provided a mobile phone and SIM card valued at Rs.50,000 to the suspect on the day he fled to Jaffna.
The main suspect, his wife, the driver, and the police officer remain under questioning via detention orders.
All four individuals face presentation at the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court today.
