Admiral Kanchana Banagoda officially retired from the Sri Lanka Navy today (01) after a career spanning over 36 years.

Kanchana Banagoda served as the 26th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy from December 31, 2024.

Traditional retirement ceremonies took place this morning at the Naval Headquarters.

During the proceedings, the outgoing commander officially handed over the duties of the office to the newly appointed Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Damien Fernando.

Following the transition, a traditional naval guard of honour was presented.

After bidding farewell to the new Navy Commander, the management board, and senior officers, the retired 26th Navy Commander departed the Naval Headquarters in a formal motorcade.

Senior and junior naval personnel lined the route to offer traditional farewell salutes as he departed.
