The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has issued notice to the Officer-in-Charge of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID), instructing him to present submissions tomorrow (03).

This is in response to a request made by W.D.N.H. Perera, seeking a court order to release electronic devices seized by the Police, including computers and mobile phones, which are currently in police custody in connection with the Krrish transaction investigations.

After considering submissions made by President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris on behalf of the applicant, Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order.

When the motion was taken up, Attorney Sanjaya Marambe informed the court that, following a search warrant issued by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, FCID officers had searched the applicant’s residence and seized laptops and hi-tech mobile phones belonging to him and his son.

He further stated that this has created difficulties for the individual in carrying out daily activities, including banking transactions.

The President’s Counsel noted that the client has no objection to providing all information required for the investigation, and that the request to release the devices has been made on that basis.

Accordingly, the Magistrate issued notice to the FCID OIC, directing him to appear in court and present submissions regarding the request on the next hearing date.
