The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) informed court that attorney Rakhitha Rajapakshe, Samagi Jana Balawegaya former Horana organiser Charith Abeysinghe, and former Director of the Civil Aviation Authority and Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka, Aruna Sri Chathuranga — who were arrested over allegations of soliciting and receiving a Rs. 120 million bribe from the wife of an organised criminal to facilitate him — had travelled to Dubai and received the money there.

The Commission further told court that former Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe was also in Dubai at the time the suspects travelled there to obtain the bribe money, as revealed during the investigations.

Accordingly, CIABOC said that an investigation has now been launched to determine whether Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe was involved in the incident, Assistant Director of Legal Affairs Anusha Samanthapperuma, who appeared for the Commission, informed court.

It was also confirmed through immigration records that Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe stayed in Dubai from March 21 to 28, 2023, the Commission stated.

Furthermore, the Commission told court that a sum of Rs. 20 million, which was later returned to an individual named Lasantha Manjula Silva, was handed over at a location on Wijayaba Mawatha, Nawala Road, Nugegoda, and that the house in question belongs to Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe.
