A 45-year-old player collapsed in the middle of the playground and passed away during a friendly cricket match between past pupils at a prominent Muslim school in the China Fort area in Beruwala yesterday evening.

Beruwala Police stated that the deceased was a resident of the Beruwala area itself.

He suddenly collapsed in the middle of the field while playing in the cricket match, which was organised to foster fellowship among past pupils.

Although those present took immediate action to admit him to the Beruwala Regional Hospital, hospital sources indicated that he was already dead upon admission.

A sudden heart attack is suspected to be the cause of death, and the Beruwala Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
