Piliyandala Police confirmed the victim as 78-year-old Wijayadasa Perera.
The suspect fled the area, and police investigations to locate him remain underway.
Investigations revealed that the father and son, who lived together, had long-standing disputes.
Following a heated argument around 11 p.m. yesterday (05), the son grew agitated and struck his father’s head and face with the tool while in the bedroom.
The victim collapsed on his bed, leaving significant bloodstains on the furniture and floor.
Piliyandala Police launched an investigation after receiving a message via the 119 emergency hotline.
Kasbewa Acting Magistrate Sunethra Perera arrived at the scene to conduct a judicial inquiry.
The magistrate ordered a post-mortem examination and directed that the body be placed at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital.
