Colombo Chief Magistrate ordered the Colombo Land Registrar to surrender her mobile phone to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The Colombo land registrar, was earlier arrested and released on bail for allegedly providing documents from the Colombo Land Registry to external parties and aiding and abetting organised crime.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order today (9) after considering a request made by the Criminal Investigation Department when the case was called.

While ordering the suspect's release on two personal bails of one million rupees each, the Magistrate yesterday (8) also imposed a travel ban.

The Magistrate also informed the suspect, who was released on bail yesterday, to surrender her passport to the court.

Furthermore, the Magistrate ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the bank records and phone records of other witnesses working in that office and submit a report to the court.

The Magistrate also banned the Land Registrar from entering the Colombo Land Registry office.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect, during her tenure as the Colombo Land Registrar, provided folios, volumes, second copies of deeds, and documents bound in volumes to external parties, thereby conspiring and aiding organised crime, and forging documents to dispose of lands away from their lawful owners, the Criminal Investigation Department informed the court.

Investigating officers stated that the suspect was produced before the court for committing offences under Sections 158 and 113(b) to be read with 109 and 113 of the Penal Code, and offences under the Offences Against Public Property Act.

The Financial and Commercial Crime Investigation Division and Financial Crime Investigation Unit Two of the Criminal Investigation Department conduct investigations regarding the incident.

The case will be called again on October 22.
