A video depicting a burning car and a student walking near it is currently circulating on social media.

The Police Media Division issued a statement noting that the video includes an audio track implying that the student set fire to the car.

Police stated that investigations revealed the car fire incident occurred on the grounds of a school located within the Kurunegala police area.

According to the report provided by the Kurunegala Police Station regarding this incident, a car valued at approximately Rs. 14 million caught fire on a school ground in Kurunegala town on the 3rd, and a complaint was received by the Kurunegala Police Station alleging that a student is responsible for this.

Kurunegala Police commenced investigations into the matter, and inquiries revealed that the student walking near the car at that time is a student studying at the same school.

However, police mentioned that no eyewitness or forensic evidence emerged so far to prove that the student shown in this video set fire to the car.

The statement further noted that Kurunegala Police reported the facts to court and are conducting further investigations, while steps were also taken to obtain expert evidence regarding the cause of the fire from the Government Analyst's Department.
