The total number of dengue cases recorded in the country this year reached 72,430.


The National Dengue Control Unit released these figures following the detection of 1,195 new cases yesterday.


A special dengue prevention campaign is underway today, covering 63 Medical Officer of Health divisions.


The National Dengue Control Unit confirmed the cumulative cases reached 72,430, whilst the death toll stood at 49.


Dengue prevention programmes continue across several areas to curb the spread.


Authorities carried out fumigation at the Galle Prison premises to control the rapid spread of the disease in the area.


In a similar effort, the Battaramulla Medical Officer of Health office organised a special prevention campaign yesterday in Koswatta, Ruhunupura.


Furthermore, legal action was taken against the Batapotha Officer in Charge office of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board after mosquito larvae were discovered on the premises.


The National Dengue Control Unit confirmed that the latest prevention drive covering 63 Medical Officer of Health divisions commenced today.
