The pistol suspected to have been used by former Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickramaratne to commit suicide will be referred to the Government Analyst for further investigations.

Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Western Province South Crime Division, Samantha Wijesekera, stated this.

He said that following the reporting of facts to the court, plans are in place to hand over this firearm to the analyst next Monday.

Meanwhile, the final rites of the deceased former Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickramaratne are scheduled for next Monday.

Reports indicate that arrangements are currently underway to keep his remains at a private funeral parlour in Colombo.

Furthermore, police launched an investigation into the individuals who visited his residence in Thalahena, Malabe, before the death occurred.

Future investigations proceed using CCTV footage from the relevant residence.

Former Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickramaratne died from a gunshot wound yesterday at his residence in Thalahena, Malabe.

Police suspect that due to a personal reason, he shot himself and committed suicide using the pistol belonging to his personal security officer.

Although the former Inspector General of Police, who sustained gunshot injuries, was admitted to the East Colombo Base Hospital, he had passed away by that time, and a gunshot wound existed on the right side of his chest.

Police recorded statements from the wife of former Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickramaratne, and she stated that her husband was under severe distress due to a court matter concerning their son.

Investigations regarding the death are being carried out by the Western Province South Crime Division and the Malabe Police Station.
