The assaulted woman suffers from high blood pressure as well as diabetes, according to police information.
The doctor's wife, mother-in-law, and daughter are clearly seen to be involved in this assault incident in video footage, police noted.
The woman who got attacked operated a milk bar in the Kurunduwatta town.
The suspect doctor served as the acting medical officer-in-charge of the Kurunduwatta Hospital for a period.
A dispute arose with the permanent medical officer-in-charge there, and this doctor was subsequently transferred to the Gampola Hospital, it is reported.
A dispute existed between the two doctors even afterwards regarding private medical services operated in the Kurunduwatta area, it is further said.
Meanwhile, the medical officer-in-charge of Kurunduwatta and his wife went to the milk bar of the assaulted woman yesterday (18) morning to have a tea.
The wife, mother-in-law, and daughter, who were at the other doctor's house near this shop, hooted and insulted this doctor and his wife, which is also observed in a video, Police stated.
Subsequently, the suspect doctor serving at the Gampola Hospital arrived in his motor car and got into a dispute with the woman at the milk bar, joined by his wife and mother-in-law.
That dispute is also recorded in a video, and she was hospitalised claiming that the cancer patient was assaulted.
An investigation commenced by the Kurunduwatta Police regarding this, and Kurunduwatta Police Station OIC Nandana Bandara stated that the suspect doctor is working at the Gampola Hospital today (19) and will be arrested after his duty hours and produced before court.
