Several spells of showers may occur today (21) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts, according to a statement issued by the Department of Meteorology.
Rain or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Monaragala, Ampara, and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 pm.
Mainly dry weather conditions prevail in the remaining areas of the island, the statement adds.
Fairly strong winds of about (40-50) kmph can occur from time to time on the western slopes of the central hills, in the Northern, North-Central, and Central provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
The department requests the public to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
