Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today (22) granted permission to detain and question Anuda Janadith Samarakoon Bandara, a son of former State Minister Shantha Bandara, for 24 hours after he was arrested by the Kollupitiya Police in connection with the robbery of 20 million rupees from a Chinese national.

Presenting further facts to the court regarding the incident, the Kollupitiya Police stated that the Inspector General of Police transferred further investigations into the matter to the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau.

Appearing on behalf of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau, investigating officers requested permission to detain and question the suspect for a period of 24 hours under Act No. 07 of 2007.

Accordingly, the case relating to the incident is scheduled to be called again tomorrow (23) at 2.30 p.m.

The Magistrate issued this order after considering the facts presented when the Kollupitiya Police produced the suspect before court.
