The no confidence motion against Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara was defeated by a majority of 116 votes.

A total of 152 votes were cast against the no-confidence motion, while 36 votes were cast in favour.

Debate on this no-confidence motion presented by the Opposition commenced in Parliament this afternoon.

The Committee on Parliamentary Business, meeting on Wednesday, decided to hold the debate regarding no-confidence motion today.

This no-confidence motion signed by 37 Opposition parliamentarians, including Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, was handed over to the Speaker based on several factors, including the failure of the Justice Minister to fulfil his responsibilities during the Negombo prison clash.
