A house, a shop, and several locations on the Norton Bridge-Maskeliya main road in Edit and Kiriwaneliya areas suffered landslides yesterday (03) following heavy rainfall in the Norton Bridge and Maskeliya areas.
Large boulders and mounds of earth collapsed onto the main road due to these landslides, severely obstructing vehicular movement.
However, officers of the Norwood Road Development Authority office took measures to remove the mounds of earth and boulders that collapsed onto the main road.
Authorities took measures to direct 15 families to a safe camp temporarily constructed at the Norton Bridge Samurdhi Development Office due to landslides and landslide risk situations that arose in the Norton Bridge area.
Nuwara Eliya District Coordinating Committee Chairman and Nuwara Eliya District Member of Parliament Manjula Suraweeraarachchi visited the location to look into the welfare of the displaced people.
Expressing views to the media, Suraweeraarachchi stated that the government has already taken measures to provide necessary relief to all people affected by this disaster.
