President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has given directives to the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to expedite the modernisation and development initiatives of the Sri Lanka Police to ensure a more efficient and quality service is provided to the public.

The President has pointed out the need to obtain the active contribution of all sectors for the 'Ratama Ekata' national operation launched by the government to eradicate the dangerous drug menace. He has also pointed out the need to upgrade facilities in rehabilitation centres and to bring all rehabilitation institutions under an integrated national programme.

The President gave these instructions while participating in a progress review of projects implemented by the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs this year and a pre-budget discussion for next year at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday(06).
