Six death row inmates held at the Pallekele Dumbara Prison were transferred to the Welikada and Agunukolapelessa prisons on suspicion of attempting to escape by cutting the iron bars of a toilet.


Prison officials launched a special investigation after observing that several iron bars in the toilet belonging to the cell where the death row inmates were kept had been cut, and during the investigation, they managed to identify that the six inmates were connected to the incident.


According to our correspondent, prison authorities took steps to transfer four of the six inmates connected to the incident to the Welikada prison, and the remaining two to the Agunukolapelessa prison.
