The Navy retrieved a male body trapped in a rock reef in the West Dummaladeniya sea off Wennappuwa early this morning (22).

The body was discovered trapped in a breakwater constructed to prevent coastal erosion, following information received from a fisherman yesterday (21) evening.

It is reported that a belt was tied around the waist of the body, suspected to be that of a young man aged between 25 and 35.

Police mentioned that the Navy was informed regarding this due to a suspicion that it could be the body of the sailor who went missing whilst aboard a Navy Fast Attack Craft that met with a mishap off the Angulana sea recently.

Police say the body is scheduled to be directed to the Chilaw General Hospital for a post-mortem examination following the Magistrate's inquest.

The Navy and Wennappuwa Police are conducting investigations regarding the incident.
