The seized drugs are estimated to have a street value exceeding Rs. 8 billion.
The raid was jointly carried out by the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Central Crime Investigation Bureau, following information received by the Senior Deputy Inspector General in charge of Crimes and Traffic.
Police inspected the two suspicious containers, and opened them with the assistance of Sri Lanka Customs.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ashoka Dharmasena, said the weighing process was still ongoing, with the quantity so far estimated at around 463 kilograms.
Investigations were launched to identify those responsible for importing the drug consignment into Sri Lanka.
