Indian Naval Ship Udaygiri, an indigenously built multi-role stealth frigate, arrived at the Colombo port on 08 September 2026 for a three-day operational turnaround.

The vessel's visit coincides with the landmark visit of Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to Sri Lanka.

The visit aims to enhance bilateral cooperation with the Sri Lanka Navy through technical training and experience sharing conducted by a mobile training team.

Essential machinery and equipment spares for the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force were also brought aboard the ship.

Commanding Officer Captain Vikas Sood will formally call on Rear Admiral GHSE De Silva, Commander Western Naval Area of the Sri Lanka Navy.

A reception is planned onboard the ship to host Sri Lankan dignitaries as part of the Indian Defence Minister's visit.

The ship’s crew will participate in professional and sports interactions with the Sri Lanka Navy and join a beach cleaning initiative in Colombo to support the ‘Clean Sri Lanka Campaign’.

INS Udaygiri previously visited Colombo alongside the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant in November 2025 to participate in SLN IFR-2025.

The vessel also provided immediate relief materials during HADR operations following Cyclone Ditwah, reinforcing India's role as a first responder for its maritime neighbour.

Visits by Indian Navy ships highlight India's commitment to the 'MAHASAGAR' vision and its 'Neighbourhood First' policy.
