Bus collides with Train at unguarded level crossing in Beruwala; 32 injured - 4 in critical condition

32 persons were injured as a private bus collided with a train at the unguarded level crossing near the Rockland junction in Magalkanda in Beruwala.

4 persons who were in critical condition have been transferred to the Colombo National Hospital while the others are receiving treatment at the Nagoda Hospital in Kalutara.

The bus had collided with the train plying from Colombo to Galle at around 7.15 last evening.

The Police media spokespersons office stated that the bus had been carrying passengers who had attended a funeral in Akuressa.

Around 52 passengers had been aboard the bus at the time of the accident.

2 passengers of the bus explained the accident as follows.


Residents’ state that although they had informed authorities on several occasions regarding the danger caused by the unguarded level crossing no steps had been taken to provide a solution to it.
