80 Sri Lankan Tamil nationals who had attempted to illegally reach Australia have been intercepted by the navy adjacent to Point Pedro shore line.

 

The group which had embarked on the journey on a multi-day trawler had comprised 38 males, 18 women & 24 children.

 

According to Navy spokesperson Commander Kosala Warnakulasooriya the group has been brought to the port of Kankasanthurai for further screening.
