17 PC councillors presented affidavits to Governor Nanda Mathew today, requesting to appoint Opposition leader Hareen Fernando as the Chief Minister since UNP has gained the majority.
5 councillors representing the UPFA are also among the councillors who presented the affidavits.
Uva PC councillor Janaka Thissa-kutti-arachchi - who supported former President Mahinda Rajapaksa during the recent election- as well as Provincial council minister Anura Ravindra Vidana-gamage and UPFA councillor Wadiwel Suresh are among those who presented the affidavits
During the last provincial council election UPFA obtained 19 seats, while UNP obtained 13 seats and JVP obtained 2 seats.
Following the submission of affidavits, the number of opposition councillors has increased to 17 while the UPFA councillors amount to 15.
