The Customs arrested a Sri Lankan who attempted to smuggle 24 gold biscuits worth Rs. 12 million at the Katunayake airport early this morning.

The arrested person is a 40 year old resident of Akurana.

The suspect, who arrived on a Jet Airways flight from Mumbai, had concealed the gold biscuits in his luggage.

He was arrested following a tip-off received by the pilot due to his suspicious behaviour.

Media spokesman of the Customs Lesley Gamini told our news team that following the initial investigations, the stock of gold has been handed over to the Customs.
