The five university student who were stranded while hiking the Seven Virgins mountain range were rescued at 8.00am today.

The group had set out around 2.30 pm yesterday to climb the Seven Virgins Mountain in Maskeliya- Norton Bridge. Later the police was informed that the group was stranded around 7.20 pm last night.

It has been reported that the stranded group includes one student from the Kotalawala Defence University and four students from the University of Kelaniya, while two of them are French nationals.

It is believed that the group was stranded when they had attempted to climb down the mountain due to unfavourable weather which prevailed.
