The Reuter News Agency reported today that the hijacked crude oil tanker Aries-13 has been cordoned by Somali security units in order to rescue its Sri Lanka crew.

Reuters quoted Director General of the Maritime Force in Puntland as saying that the hijacked vessel is docked in seas off Alula city of semi-autonomous region of Puntland.

Director General of the Maritime Force in Puntland further said that attacks will be launched to rescue the crew if the current efforts are failed.

However, it was reported that the hijackers have shot at the security teams this afternoon as they stopped a supply vessel to the hijackers.

The supply vessel had fled the scene while security units engaged in retaliation.

Meanwhile, foreign media reported that the hijackers have demanded ransom to release the vessels and its crew.

However, the local manpower agent who recruited the vessel crew Tyron Fernando said during a media conference held at the Ministry of Shipping that the pirates have not demanded any ransom as yet.

He also said that the owner of the ship is ready to pay the ransom if it is demanded.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera told during a media conference held in Colombo today that Sri Lankan Ambassador to Ethiopia is engaged in talks with the Somali government in order to release the Sri Lankans ship crew.
