The case against former Minister Basil Rajapaksa for misappropriating Rs. 250 million of state funds to build a luxury house in Malwana, was taken up for hearing at the Gampaha High Court today (Mar. 09).

The counsel appearing for the former Minister requested the High Court to put aside the case citing that politicians cannot be tried under the Bribery Act.

However, High Court Judge Priyantha Fernando rejected that point and decided to hear the case.

The Notary Public who involved in this land deal gave evidence today and later the Judge postponed the case until 7th of May.
