“Ahangama building had permission for 3 floors” – Police

It is being revealed that the owner has obtained permission to build only 3 floors of the collapsed 5-storey building in Palessagama, Ahangama today (18).

Six construction workers sustained injuries when the building collapsed at around 10am.

The injured workers were preparing steel bars to be laid for another slab of the building.

Initially, 5 persons were admitted to Karapitiya Hospital with minor injuries and the sixth person was rescued after 2 1/2 hours.

The hospital sources said one of his legs had sustained serious injuries.

Police said this building was to accommodate a hotel.
