The former CWC councillor at the Nuwara Eliya Pradeshiya Sabha, R. Mallarwasagam has surrendered to Dimbula Police this morning (Mar. 19).

He is accused of threatening the doctors and staff at the Kotagala Hospital and damaging the public property.

An unidentified group had shouted at the doctors of the hospital on Saturday night, while the doctors were attending to a person who was injured in an accident.

In response, the hospital staff including the doctors staged a strike yesterday urging the authorities to beef-up security at the hospital.

All the hospitals in the Nuwara Eliya district were to join the strike today.

However, they have suspended the strike after the former PS councillor and another suspect were arrested.
