President Maithreepala Sirisena says that if there are weaknesses in the 19th constitutional amendment process, he is prepared to make necessary amendments protecting the essence of democracy and what it entails in accordance with legislative processes.

The president’s media office issuing a communiqué noted that he is committed to work towards nurturing the 19th amendment further.

The communiqué further noted that the 19th amendment was passed in order to solve issues regarding democracy in the country under the patronage of president Maithreepala Sirisena.

The president believes that through the 19th amendment Sri Lanka has been bestowed with the appointing of independent commissions, and strengthening of the democratic institutional structure.

President Maithreepala Sirisena added that it is a victory of the people and was an essential element to assist the motherland to enter into a modernized era.
