Having agreed to pay the compensation and other expenses borne by Sri Lanka in dousing the fire, the owners of MT New Diamond have begun towing the tanker off from the country’s marine waters.
However, the Attorney General has informed the Marine environment Protection Authority that further negotiations with regard to the damage caused to the sea is pending.
He also informed that the due claims have not been settled by the owners of the vessel.
It is reported that the foreign team which arrived in the country for the rescue mission is currently towing the vessel towards India.
Earlier the owners of the vessel agreed to pay 442 million rupees as compensation to the Sri Lanka government.
