News is being reported regarding an incident where a mother and her one-and-half-year-old child were killed when the motorcycle they were travelling in tangled with a thread of a kite.

The police that the accident had taken place Pitiwella, Rathgama on the Galle-Colombo road last night (17).

The accident had taken place when the Air Force sergeant was travelling on a motorcycle with his wife and two children.

The motorcycle they were traveling on had tangled with a thread of a kite causing the motorcycle to overturn as the speed could not be controlled.

Police stated that the 35-year-old mother and the infant had died on admission to the Karapitiya Hospital.

They are residents of Piyadigama, Gintota.

Hiru News correspondent said that they had met with the accident while on their way to Rathgama to visit their parents from their Gintota home.

The sergeant who drove the motorcycle and the other five-and-a-half-year-old child who was traveling in it also managed to survive.

The bodies of the deceased woman and child have been placed at the Karapitiya Hospital morgue, police said.
