Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says that the government is committed to making Sri Lanka a global maritime sustainability hub in the region.

The Prime Minister made this remark while participating in the keynote address at the Asia-Pacific World Ocean Summit organized by The Economics Group via online technology yesterday.

The Prime Minister said that as an island nation surrounded by the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka has a great responsibility to respect the ocean as well as its inhabitants and to protect the Indian Ocean.

According to the Prime Minister's Office, more than 2,000 people from around the world will be attending the conference online and about 100 speakers will be lecturing.
