The Sri Lanka Construction Association requests the government to issue a gazette notice naming cement as an essential commodity.
Susantha Liyanage, the Chairman of the association, said that despite the recent announcement by Trade Minister Nalin Fernando that the price of a bag of cement would be reduced, so far cement cannot be bought in the market at that price.
Meanwhile, Lanka Sathosa announced yesterday that the price of 10 essential goods will be reduced from today.
The price of one kilo green gram will be reduced by 325 rupees and its new price will be 1225 rupees.
Also, the price of a kilogram of dry chillies has been reduced by 60 rupees.
Accordingly, the new price of a kilogram of dry chillies is 1290 rupees.
Also, the price of one kilogram of lentils has been reduced by 15 rupees and from today.
