Colombo High Court has handed down a sentence of 12 years imprisonment with hard labour to a private bus driver found guilty of causing a fatal accident through reckless and high-speed driving. The tragic incident resulted in the death of three individuals and severe injuries to another.

The case, stemming from the January 10, 2007 accident in the Mirihana area, was presented before Colombo High Court Judge Namal Bandara Balalle. The judge, in delivering the verdict, emphasized the gravity of the offense and the devastating consequences it had on the victims and their families.

Additionally, the owner of the bus involved in the incident received a 15-month suspended prison sentence.
