During the budget debate for the Ministry of Buddha Sasana Religious Affairs and Culture, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera made a significant request in Parliament, urging the Minister of Culture to consider banning tuition classes held on Sundays. Minister Amaraweera emphasized that such classes pose a significant obstacle to the successful operation of Sunday morning religious schools.

Citing the views of religious leaders, including Buddhist monks, Minister Amaraweera highlighted the need to prioritize Dhamma schools and religious education on Sundays. He suggested that a ban on Sunday tuition classes would provide an opportunity for religious institutions to conduct Dhamma schools effectively.

The minister acknowledged that the request to ban Sunday tuition classes aligns with a similar proposal put forward during the budget discussions of the Ministry of Education. Minister Amaraweera called for collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education to address this concern and create an environment conducive to religious education on Sundays.
