Authorities have arrested three women on charges related to the alleged trafficking of two seven-day-old twins. The trio includes the mother of the infants and two women who purportedly intended to purchase the newborns.

According to police reports, a 29-year-old mother residing in the Piliyandala area is accused of selling her twins for a sum of fifty thousand rupees. The illicit transaction was said to involve two women from Polonnaruwa and Ragama areas.

Law enforcement agencies acted swiftly upon receiving information about the alarming incident, taking the three women into custody for questioning. The motive behind the sale and the circumstances leading to the transaction are under investigation.
