Sri Lanka Cricket has denied reports that cricketer Kusal Mendis has been denied a visa to travel to the United States for the Twenty20 World Cup cricket tournament.

Speaking to the media, Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley De Silva clarified that Kusal Mendis's visa has not been rejected but is currently undergoing processing.

Ashley De Silva further expressed confidence that Kusal will receive his visa within the next two days.

However, it is reported that the American Embassy has requested additional information from Mendis concerning his visa application.

Sources indicate that the American Embassy has specifically sought details regarding a car accident involving Kusal Mendis that occurred in the Panadura area in 2020.

Sri Lanka will play two official warm-up fixtures in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA. They will take on Netherlands in the 1st warm-up game on the 28th of May in Florida before taking on Ireland in their 2nd official warm-up game against Ireland on the 31st of May.

Sri Lanka is grouped with South Africa, Bangladesh, Nepal and Netherlands.

The Sri Lanka team is currently in Morrisville and have commenced their training for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which begins on the 2nd of June.

“The ICC support period for the participating countries begins on the 25th of May. But we managed to send the team two weeks in advance so that they can acclimatize to the conditions well. So, there is no delay as such. Hopefully he will join the team before the team play their warm-up games. “De Silva further stated.
