Colombo, May 25, 2024 – Senior President's Counsel Gamini Marapana, a distinguished lawyer and first chairman of the Port City Commission, passed away this morning at the age of 82. His relatives reported that he had been ill for some time.

Born on January 1, 1942, Gamini Marapana received his primary education at St. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia and later attended the University of Peradeniya and Sri Lanka Law College. In 1990, he was sworn in as President's Counsel, marking a significant milestone in his legal career.

Gamini Marapana, brother of former Minister Tilak Marapana, was a prominent figure in the legal community

Mr. Marapana's contributions to the legal field were extensive, and his leadership as the first chairman of the Colombo Port City Commission was notable. He was also known for representing many high-profile and controversial cases, earning a reputation as a formidable legal mind.

The last rites for Mr. Marapana will be performed tomorrow at the Borella Public Cemetery.
