Seya Sadewmi case hearing recommences on a daily basis

The case in which Saman Jayalath has been indicted by the Attorney General (AG) for committing the murder of Seya Sadewmi of Kotadeniyawa was called to hear on a daily basis from 25th January (yesterday) before Negombo Provincial High Court Judge Champa Janaki Rajaratne.

Thirty witnesses including the deceased’s parents, grandfather and former Chief Magistrate D.A.Ruwanpathirana and the main suspect of the murder Saman Jayalath appeared in Court yesterday upon the order of the High Court Judge to deliver summons on the case.

Saman Jayalath was escorted to the High Court from Negombo Prison and the AG announced the criminal the offenses he was prosecuted for.

The offenses were,

  1. Abducting Seya Sadewmi
  2. Raping the abducted child
  3. Horrendous sexual abuse of the child
  4. Murdering the child

Sources from the Court note that the case is based on scientific evidence rather than eye witness.

DNA samples of the main suspect have matched with the alien DNAs found from the dead body.

Seya Sadewmi was abducted on 12th September last year and found dead near a canal close to their house on the following day.
