Wild+Life+Officer+Killed+as+His+Service+Weapon+Misfires

An assistant wildlife officer who was involved in a raid, to arrest a group of hunters near the Katuwewa bird sanctuary in Hambantota died after his service weapon misfired accidentally.

The deceased has been identified as 43-year old H.P. Jagath Seneviratne of Buwellagoda in Walasmulla.

It is reported that the deceased and his fellow officer engaged in a scuff while they attempted to arrest the hunters.

The service weapon of the deceased had misfired during the scuffle and injured assistant wild life officer, who had then been rushed to Hambantota hospital.

However the victim died of his injuries later.
