National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa, former IGP Mahinda Balasuriya and 15 others arrived to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC) this morning.
Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa is accused of incurring a loss of 17 million and 85 thousand rupees to the government by selling under vouched 6 shops and one house that belonged to the then Housing Development Authority.
Wimal Weerawansa as the then Construction, Engineering Services, housing development and common amenities minister and managers and the directors of the then Housing Development Authority have been summoned before the Commission in connection with the misappropriation.
The petition against them was filed by the Anti-Corruption Front.
Meanwhile, Mahinda Balasuriya has been summoned before the Massive Fraud and Corruption Commission for violating the VIP security Circular and providing security to MPs of the National freedom Front during his tenure as the IGP.
Former MPs Piyasiri Wijenayake, Mohammad Musammil, Nimal Premawansa and MPs Padma Udaya Shantha and Jayantha Samaraweera have also been summoned before the Commission.
The investigations have revealed that a loss of 23 million 8 thousand 711 rupees has been incurred to the Police Department by providing security to NFF members from February 2011 to January 2015.
