Government decides to take garbage in Colombo to 2 temporary sites

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Harsha de Silva says that the government will bear all funeral expenses for those who lost their lives due to the Meethotamulla garbage dump collapse and that the evacuation of residents under threat will commence immediately.   

He stated that no more garbage will be dumped at this site in Meethotamulla and that two temporary sites were identified this morning during a meeting held according to the instructions of the President.

Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka expressing his views during a media briefing held at the Disaster Management centre had this to say.

Meanwhile, the JVP issuing a communiqué had conveyed its condolences over the tragedy and had also stated that the Government should take steps to prevent such a tragedy in future.
