First ever heart transplant in Sri Lanka successful

The first ever heart transplant in Sri Lanka was carried out successfully at the Kandy general hospital on Friday.

A 37 year old female whose heart was 12 percent dysfunctional was transplanted with the heart of a 24 year old youth who was brain dead following an accident.

Director of the Kandy general hospital Doctor Saman Rathnayaka said that the kidneys of the youth had also been donated to two other patients.
