Minister Rishard Bathiudeen says that he did not try to influence Security Forces to release individuals who were taken into custody subsequent to the Easter Sunday attacks.

He made this comment in a special statement to media in response to the views expressed by Army Commander Mahesh Senanayake at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday.

However, Minister Rishard Bathiudeen expressed his views regarding two instances he called the Army Commander.

He said that he made an inquiry to find out whether a certain person was in custody or not based on that individual’s parents’ requests.

At the same time, on the day of the funerals of those who had died in the Katuwapitiya church bombings, the Minister said he spoke to Army Commander Senanayake on a request in connection with providing protection to the Muslim people.

Meanwhile at a media briefing summoned by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Member of Parliament Rohitha Abeygunawardena expressed his views on this.

He said that the Army Commander had made direct statements regarding the telephone calls he received from the Minister.
