Specialist to head excavations of Mannar's mass grave
The police states that the future excavations regarding the mass grave found in the Mannar Kovil grounds will be carried out under the supervision of a specialist.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana stated that accordingly the excavations will be carried out under the supervision of the Anuradhapura Judicial Medical Officer.
Several contractors who were laying water pipes along the access road to the Thirukeshwaram Kovil situated near the Mannar A - 32 main road on Friday, discovered several human bone fragments including a skull.
Subsequently more excavations were carried out by the police under the observation of the Manna Magistrate.
The police stated that as of yesterday 10 human skulls along with other human bones were discovered from this site.
Elaborating further Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana stated that this site is being considered a mass grave used by the LTTE during the war.
