Head of the National Operational Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva has said that this week is crucial for the country in the prevailing situtaion concerning coronavirus pandemic.

The Matugama Medical Officer of Health stated that PCR tests in isolated areas of Ovitigala, Badugama and Badugama New Colony are being carried out today (19) as well, with the discovery of 17 more coronavirus patients.

According to the Matugama Medical Officer of Health, 25 COVID-19 patients reported from Matugama were residents of the three isolated areas of Ovitigala, Badugama and Badugama New Colony.

Nine (09) monks at the Vidyaratne Pirivena in Meegahatenna, Kalutara and 17 other close associates were directed to quarantine after a monk at the Pirivena tested positive for COVID-19.

Twelve (12) people including the Armour Street Police OIC were directed to the Habarana Quarantine Centre after two family members of a Police Sergeant at the Police Station were confirmed to have contracted COVID-19.

Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that after the disinfection of the Police post yesterday (18), other officers were deployed to start other activities.

Meanwhile, the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka stated that other than the Minuwangoda Brandix factory, 216 COVID-19 patients were reported from 13 factories at the Katunayake Export Processing Zone.

The Katunayake Police has informed the employees at the Katunayake EPZ that they are required to travel to their places of employment by vehicles provided by the employer from today (19) and not in their private vehicles.

Katunayake Police OIC, Chief Inspector Akila Ranasinghe stated that this decision was taken after several EPZ employees were arrested for travelling to other areas using their employee identity card as a curfew license under the pretext of coming to work.

After an employee at an apparel factory in Kahathuduwa, Piliyandala had tested positive for the virus, 390 employees were subjected to PCR testing and their results are set to be released today (19) afternoon.

A security officer of Lanka Electricity Company (LECO) living in Kandana was infected with coronavirus.

Earlier, a group of LECO officials in Kandana were reported to have contracted the virus. However, the subsequent PCR tests that were carried out revealed that the group were not infected with coronavirus.

With 11 people infected with COVID-19 being identified from the Kuliyapitiya area yesterday (18), travel restrictions were imposed in the Urupitiya area, stated Medical Officer of Health in the area, Uthpala Sankalpa.

He added that more than 800 people were directed to quarantine procedures accordingly.

Following PCR tests conducted on 82 persons by the Beruwala Medical Officer of Health at a tourist hotel premises in Moragalla, one person was identified to be infected with coronavirus.

He is revealed to be an employee of a private bus in Agalawatta.

The total number of COVID-19 patients reported from Sri Lanka stands at 5,538, while 2,122 are still receiving treatment for the infection.

The total number of the Minuwangoda Brandix cluster increased to 2,075 after another 61 patients tested positive for the virus yesterday (18).

In relation to the Minuwangoda Brandix cluster, coronavirus patients were reported from 15 districts.

Further, the Education Ministry has informed to dial 1988 for any issues pertaining to health care at Advance Level Examination centres.

Meanwhile, Secretary to the Government Dental Surgeons Association, Vipula Wickramasinghe has requested the public to visit hospitals only for essential dental work.

The Government Information Department announced that it was made mandatory to book a date through the www.immigration.gov.lk website before visiting the Immigration and Emigration Department.
