Gayan Shanaka, a frontline player representing the Sri Lanka Army rugby team, has died due to a sudden heart attack during training.
Gayan, who has been a frontline player for the Sri Lanka Army for more than four years, is a player who has played in all of Sri Lanka's Premier League rugby tournaments.
He had complained of chest pain while training this morning (07).
An officer attached to the Sri Lanka Army rugby team confirmed he passed away after being admitted to the hospital.
However, the officer added that the death was not related to Covid-19.
Gayan, 33, entered rugby from Veluwana College, Colombo and played for the Sri Lanka Army Gajaba Regiment.
