Four military officers who served at the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center have been arrested on suspicion of the death of an inmate at the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center.

The Welikanda Police mentioned that two Army and two Air Force personnel were arrested yesterday (01) afternoon.

Bamboo sticks and electric cables suspected to have been used to assault the inmates were also taken into police custody at the center.

Meanwhile, the police also mentioned that they are investigating to find 44 people who escaped from the camp.

Also, the Welikanda Police has started an investigation related to the controversial situation that has arisen regarding the identity of the young man who died at the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center.

It is reported that statements have been obtained from the other two inmates who were with the inmate regarding the incident.

There was confusion regarding the identity of the body when the relatives of his family declared that the person who had died at the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center was not the young man identified as a person from Haliela Uduwara area.

Meanwhile, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation, Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi says that he will receive the report of the investigation into the incident at Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center next Monday (04).

In an inquiry made by the Hiru news section, he mentioned that 4 persons consisting of a high-ranking officer were appointed for this investigation.

An investigation team of the Human Rights Commission has also gone to the site to carry out further investigations regarding the violence and the death of an inmate at the center.

Accordingly, the commission stated that investigations are being conducted regarding the conflict situation and the death of a detainee.

Meanwhile, the inmates who escaped from the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center and were re-arrested are being held in Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Dumbara and Batticaloa prisons.

667 people who escaped from the camp were re-arrested, and the police and the police special task force are still investigating to find 44 inmates.
