The police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protest held by a group of Kelaniya University students last night.
During the protest, 06 university students were arrested and they will be produced before the Mahara Magistrate's Court today.
The student union held this protest in front of the university demanding the release of Kelaniya University Students' Union head Kalum Mudannayake and Dilshan Harshana who were arrested.
The police stated that due to the protest, there was heavy traffic on the Colombo - Kandy road in front of Kelaniya University.
